Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update all features

Minecraft has finally come out with the new 1.17 update which is also known as The Caves and Cliffs update. The update has launched today. There are several major developments that come along with this update.

Caves & Cliffs: Part I has introduced new mobs and blocks to Minecraft. The goats that you’ll see are also extremely adorable, but also very fond of ramming, so you either would to keep your distance or prepare yourself for a journey through the air. Just in case you are standing near a body of water and the goat hits you from behind making your blocky body fall into the water, you might encounter the glow squid. Make sure you grab some glow ink while you’re swimming with these glittering creatures.

You can now find blocks such as small and big dripleaf, pointed dripstone, caves vines and glow berries, azalea and azalea leaves, flowering azalea and flowering azalea leaves, hanging roots, rooted dirt, moss carpet, and moss block.

Now you can also play with glow lichen, powder snow, and deep-slate blocks, as well as the new amethyst geodes. This means, you can craft the new spyglass and tinted glass.

Minecraft The Caves and Cliffs: Where to find Glow Squid ?

Glow Squids are very different from normal squids, so it is very unlikely that you will find them in places where normal squids are. Glow Squids are underground water mobs, which means they are more likely to be found in underground water in total darkness. Due to their signature glow they can be spotted quiet easily in extreme darkness. It’s worth noting that Glow Squid, like normal squid, cannot be bred and can only be found in the wild under these conditions.

What are the uses of Glow Squid ?

Glow Squid majorly have three uses. Two of them are direct uses and one is an indirect use.

The direct uses come from the ink sacks which they drop when killed. These dropped ink sacks can be used for two things. The first thing is called Glowing Item Frame.  By crafting an item frame together with a glowing ink sack you will get an item frame that lights up whatever is placed in it, though without generating any actual light. The second use is done by right-clicking on a sign with a glowing ink sack, this will cause the words on the sign to begin glowing so that they can be read in the dark. Different types of dye can also be used to change the color of the glow with another right-click. And those are all of the current uses for this new glowing mob.

The indirect use of Glow Squid is that they can be used to locate underwater cave openings in the ocean. Since they generally can only spawn in these caves, it provides you with a good place to start looking for an opening if you spot some of them floating around in the ocean.

Minecraft The Caves and Cliffs Update: How to craft a Lightning Rod and what does it do ?

Lightning has always been a powerful natural force that results in disastrous results (everything on fire) or can be used as a tool (powering Frankenstein’s monster). Whatever way you want to use it, lightning is functional, and while it has been an entity in Minecraft for well over a decade now, it is only with the Cliffs and Caves Part 1 update that we can finally harness its power with the Lightning Rod item. Here is how to craft the Lightning Rod in Minecraft and what it can do for you.

Crafting a Lightning Rod is quite easy. All you need for it are three pieces of Copper Ingot which you can get by mining Copper Ore underground and putting it through a Furnace. Then, if using the crafting grid form of crafting, place the three ingots in all middle slots vertically, and you have a Lightning Rod.

As you might expect, wherever you place a Lightning Rod in your world is where a lightning bolt will strike during a thunderstorm. This has multiple uses for you in a Minecraft world.

First, you can place a Lightning Rod on top of any flammable surface and prevent a lightning strike from catching it on fire. For example, if you have made your home out of a volatile resource like wood or wool, this will prevent the passing storms from lighting your house in flames. This will also prevent Skeleton Horse Traps from spawning in your area.

Also, when a Lightning Rod is struck by lightning, it emits a Redstone charge, so if you connect it to some kind of contraption powered by Redstone, it will briefly power it for as long as that Redstone connection remains intact.

If you want to force lightning to strike your Lightning Rod, you can enchant a Trident with Channeling and throw it in the vicinity of a Lightning Rod, and instead of striking the Trident, lightning will go to the rod.

Minecraft 1.17 Update: Where to Find and How to Get Amethyst ?

The first and most important thing you need to know is how amethyst can only be found in amethyst geodes, which are underground structures in the overworld. If you find the amethyst geodes, you’ll find amethyst.

The consensus on the data among fans is that Amethyst geodes are usually generated in the overworld between the coordinates Y=70 and the bedrock layer, and this is regardless of whether “generate structures” is toggled on or off. Each chunk has 1/53 chance to generate a geode, and sometimes they are exposed on the surface, such as on beaches and underwater.

Moreover, Amethyst Geodes are always made of the same layers: you have an outer layer of smooth basalt, a middle layer of calcite and a hollow layer of amethyst blocks. In other words, if you don’t see a layer of smooth basalt first, what you’re seeing isn’t an Amethyst Geode.

Usually, Geodes will have a crack so you won’t need to cut through if you find that crack. Though just cutting through can be faster than looking for the crack. The interior of Amethyst Geodes is hollow, and you’ll be able to find Small to Large Amethyst Buds, and Amethyst Clusters.

You can make the spyglass and the tinted glass with the Amethyst shards you mined. These are highly sought craftable items, especially the spyglass, which lets you zoom in on specific locations.
